“Over the years, I’ve had to make the most out of all kinds of work spaces, from my grandmother’s living room floor to a dining room table. As an adult, my first workspace was my 10x10 bedroom in a shared house with many roommates in San Francisco. A big source of joy in my life these days is having a space all to myself dedicated to making stuff. I converted what was once my dusty, bare-bones garage into a light-filled creative sanctuary. I wanted to make a book where all kinds of children could see themselves on the page. As a child, I loved stories in which the main character goes on some magical adventure to a world where anything is possible. Oftentimes, those characters didn’t look like me or come from a community that reflected my own. I want kids today to have a different experience.”​
