제목 : Flashlight
글작가 : Lizi Boyd
그림작가 : Lizi Boyd
출판사 : Chronicle Books
발행년도 : 2014-08-12
국적 : San Francisco, USA

심사평 : What the jury said
It is growing dark and a little boy is peeping out of his tent looking out into the darkness. Using his flashlight, he discovers the friendly world nature at night. This book is a visual poem featuring lovely, original line illustrations on black paper with colour confined to the spaces lit up by the flashlight beam. Flashlight tells a simple yet resonant story of a boy’s curiosity overcoming his fears.

FICTION SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : La Chambre du Lion
글작가 : Adrien Parlange
그림작가 :Adrien Parlange
출판사 : Albin Michel Jeunesse
발행년도 : 2014
국적 : Paris, France

심사평 : What the jury said
This story inverts the popular notion of a child fearing scary creatures lurking in his room at night; this time it’s a lion who is scared of what is hiding in the dark. The book’s elegant, minimal illustrations feel simultaneously historical and fresh. Employing repetition and rhythm, La Chambre du Lion is a charming and reassuring bedtime story.

FICTION SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : Gordon und Tapir
글작가 : Sebastian Meschenmoser
그림작가 : Sebastian Meschenmoser
출판사 : Thienemann-Esslinger Verlag
발행년도 : 2014-
국적 : Stuttgart, Germany

심사평 : What the jury said
This book tells the story a (messy) tapir and a (tidy) penguin sharing a flat. Due to their contrasting personalities, the odd couple experience a hilarious series of conflicts and disagreements. The colored pencil illustrations?black and white with a clever use of color?are detailed and amusing. Gordon und Tapir is a lovely story of friendship and tolerance overcoming fundamental differences in disposition.

글작가 : Joung Yumi
그림작가 :Joung Yumi

With exquisitely crafted photorealistic illustrations, this daring book brings its readers into an uncomfortable series of psychological realities that deal with issues of self-identity and facing fear. The unusual structure of the visual narrative reinforces the inner labyrinth of the unconscious.

FICTION SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : The Little Wall
글작가 : Jee Kyung-ae
그림작가 : Jee Kyung-ae
출판사 : Bandal
발행년도 : 2014-03-24
국적 : Gyeonggi-do, South Korea

Telling a simple story of children waiting for their mother, this book presents a wall as a character that lends companionship and provides a sense of safety and stability during a temporary separation from their parent. Taking advantage of the wide, landscape format, the quiet but stunning, expansive illustrations show poetic spaces rife with emotional charge.

NONFICTION WINNER

제목 : Avant Apres
글작가 : Anne-Margot Ramstein
그림작가 : Matthias Aregui
출판사 : Albin Michel Jeunesse
발행년도 : 2014
국적 : Paris, France

심사평 : What the jury said
This book brilliantly illustrates the passing time in myriad delightful ways. Wordless, Avant Apres features pairs of images that show varied and unexpected before-and-after scenarios. The illustrations are graphic, clear, and uncluttered in a rich palette. While the its non-linearity invites readers to dip in and leaf through the pages at random, the end of the book triggers the desire to re-read it from the beginning and let time pass as they do.

NONFICTION SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : A Dandelion is a Dandelion
글작가 : Jangsung Kim
그림작가 : Hyun-gyung Oh
출판사 : Iyagikot Publishing
발행년도 : 2014-04-28
국적 : Seoul, South Korea

심사평 : What the jury said
This poetic book describes the lifecycle of the dandelion from seed to wind dispersion. Delicate watercolour illustrations and the effective use of white space and minimal text, help emphasize how the plant grows and survives in an urban setting, thus showing that small lives can thrive even in a hostile environment, and that the most ordinary things in life are quite beautiful.

 NONFICTION SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : One Day in Beijing
글작가 : Hsin-Yu Sun
그림작가 : Hsin-Yu Sun
출판사 : Hsiao Lu Publishing Co. Ltd
발행년도 : 2013
국적 : Taipei, Taiwan

심사평 : What the jury said
This image-driven book works on two different levels. At first glance, it appears to be a child’s travel guide that follows a little girl and her cat round the city’s landmarks. At closer look, it reveals a subtle critique of the mass building undertaken for the recent Olympic Games, replacing traditional city areas with imposing Western-style buildings?forcing the population into faceless modern apartments. A predominantly black and white book, its flashes of colour depict the protagonist and her real and imaginary adventures throughout the city.

NONFICTION SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : Typogryzmol
글작가 : Jan Bajtlik
그림작가 : Jan Bajtlik
출판사 : Dwie Siostry Wydawnictwo
발행년도 : 2014
국적 : Warsaw, Poland

심사평 : What the jury said
This book is a striking and engaging adventure in typography, inviting child readers to play with letters and words to tap into their own creativity and discover what letters and words can do. Typogryzmol celebrates design by combining diverse styles of imagery: collage, drawings, and graphics with a very clever use of eye-catching fluorescent colours.

NONFICTION SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : Cabinet de Curiosites
글작가 : Camille Gautier
그림작가 : Jeanne Detallante
출판사 : Actes Sud Junior
발행년도 : 2014
국적 : Arles, France

심사평 : What the jury said
As the title suggests, this book is a collection of curious item, and it cleverly feels like a cabinet with its horizontal format that is bound at the top edge. Each double page showcases the secret marvels of the world, including unicorns and other animals of the imagination. The bright, saturated colours of the illustrations take the reader back to the heyday of private collections of rare exotic artifacts, which gave rise to modern museums. Cabinet de Curiosites is a source of discovery, amazement, and delight.

글작가 : Ruth Kaufman and Raquel Franco
그림작가 : Diego Bianki

국적 : Buenos Aires, Argentina

심사평 :What the jury said
This verb-centric alphabet book is silly and out-of-the-ordinary. Its pages are full of energy, movement, and characters whose actions range from the routine to the nonsensical. Abecedario is carefully considered, from the whimsical illustrations to the high quality craft craft and binding.

OPERA PRIMA WINNER

제목 : La forao
글작가 : Maria Ana Peixe Dias and Ines Teixeira do Rosario
그림작가 : Bernardo P. Carvalho

This dense volume is beautifully designed with elegant typography and a bold two-color palette. OPERA PRIMA
SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : Mon Petit Frere Invisible
글작가 : Ana Pez
그림작가 : Ana Pez
출판사 : L'Agrume
발행년도 : 2014
국적 : Paris, France

심사평 : What the jury said
At first read, this is simply a story of a girl and her younger brother, but with a clever use of colored glasses, a second story and alternate point-of-view are revealed. As the boy moves “invisibly” through the narrative, the shift in perspective throughout Mon Petit Frere Invisible sheds light on the child’s place as he moves through the adult world.

OPERA PRIMA
SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : Hoje sinto-me...
글작가 : Madalena Moniz
그림작가 : Madalena Moniz
출판사 : Orfeu Negro
발행년도 : 2014
국적 : Lisbon, Portugal,

심사평 :What the jury said
Avoiding cliche, this beautiful and unusual alphabet book uses whimsy, wit, and metaphor in unexpected, charming illustrations for each letter. Illustrating emotions instead of objects or actions, Hoje sinto-me... is a wonderful dictionary of feelings.

OPERA PRIMA
SPECIAL MENTION

제목 : Look Up!
글작가 : Jung Jinho
그림작가 : Jung Jinho
출판사 :Hyeonamsa Publishing Co., Ltd
발행년도 : 2014
국적 : Seoul, South Korea
심사평 :What the jury said
A child in a wheelchair looks down from her balcony. Including two different narrative plains and a bird’s eye perspective, this stark but moving narrative contrasts the movement of the people on the street with the stillness of the protagonist above. As the story moves along, a joyful relationship develops between them.

BOOKS AND SEED WINNER

제목 : FRIGO VIDE
글작가 : Gaёtan Doremus
그림작가 : Gaёtan Doremus
출판사 : Seuil Jeunesse
발행년도 : 2009
국적 : Paris, France

심사평 : What the jury said
This book is as high and tall as a building, like so many of the apartment blocks in the city. The book’s main character is a tenant who lives down in the cellar and finds a solution to solve the problem. He goes upstairs following a logical sequence and knocks on everyone’s doors, offering food together with a cooking project. Then a large round table and a huge cake in the oven suddenly colour the pages. Colour and conviviality stream out of the building flowing into other apartment blocks. Soon there is not enough space so people go out into the street and get lost in a community feasting in a street party. But was it all a dream? Or is the dream about to come true? The book masterfully narrates the value of food in social exchange, a positive story flanking the trend to build communities and live in a community. Its analytical description of the characters and their domestic settings offers a strong and convincing example. Food is a need that brings everyone together and becomes a shared opportunity for us all, like the cake that helps to find creative solutions in the search for happiness.
